(Video) Dr. Franklin is best known for his book From Slavery To Freedom published in 1947. He received more than one hundred honorary degrees from colleges and universities and in 1995 received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the nation’s highest civilian honor). Dr. Franklin was born in Oklahoma and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He graduated from Fisk University in 1935 and earned a doctorate in history in 1941 from Harvard University.
